April 27, 2018

You know those fairy-tale weddings where the Princess marries her Prince Charming? Well, after your beautiful wedding surrounded by friends and family, why not travel to where the royalty actually live? That’s right — come to London!

All of us at London Connection have taken the opportunity to spend time in London with our sweethearts. It really is a romantic city! We have compiled several diverse options so you can choose a few activities that appeal to you.

1. Romantic Dinner

A perfect way to begin a lovely evening in London is with a fine meal. Three of our favorites are sure to please your palate: Aqua Shard, The Ritz, and Clos Maggiore. Dress up and enjoy one of the best meals of your life! Don’t want to change from your jeans? Also an option: you will be surrounded with charming pubs, cafes, and restaurants throughout the city. Find some of our favorites in these article: Favorite Restaurants and 11 Comfort Foods to Enjoy at London Pubs.

2. Enjoy Nature

When you think of aristocratic London, do you imagine polo ponies or Prince Charming on his white stallion? Well, you can find yourself on the back of a horse enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The Ross Nye Stables at Hyde Park will take care of all the details. And who doesn’t enjoy wandering through acres of flowers? My husband and I loved the afternoon we spent at Kew Gardens. A twist on romance — instead of delivering flowers to your sweetheart, take them to see blossoms by the thousands!

3. Walking Tour

You can find so many interesting places as you wander the streets of London. Go on your own by downloading the Blue Plaque App and find where some of your favorite historical figures used to live. Perhaps you would prefer a more organized tour of Harry Potter or the Beatles with London Walks.  For a real treat (literally), try the Mayfair Chocolate Tour. DELICIOUS.

4. Little Venice

If you have never had the chance to go to Amsterdam or Italy and want the experience of a “gondola” on a canal, this is the place for you. Located near Paddington Station, you will enjoy the serenity of Little Venice. Choose from boat tours, picnic spots, wildlife, and charming restaurants — including floating cafes! PICTURESQUE.

5. Soak in the sunset

There are some splendid views throughout London that makes it the perfect place for a honeymoon! Of course, the top of the Shard is a given, as well as the London Eye. But you may also enjoy being on the ground with a spot in Trafalgar Square or next to the River Thames. The possibilities are endless, and you can pick a different spot each evening before settling back in your London Connection vacation apartment.

6. Spa Day

A relaxing couple’s massage is the perfect solution after a long flight or a full day of sightseeing. Whether you settle for a pedicure or full body treatment, the fun is being there together as you are being pampered. Ah…

7. Helicopter Ride Over the City

What an adventure to see London from above! There are many companies that offer helicopter rides from 12 to 30 minutes, for as low as £150 per person (before any discounts). If you use your London Pass, you will save 15%. There are also options to fly over Stonehenge, to Kew Gardens, and even over Highclere Castle in Berkshire — a must for Downton Abbey fans!

8. Visit Royal Residences

Where do those royals live “happily ever after?” Well, most of them, anyway. Set time in your itinerary to visit one of the palaces. Buckingham Palace is open in the summer months to view the state rooms, and Kensington Palace is open year-round. They are filled with elegant furnishings, priceless art, and give you a chance to peek into “their” world.

9. Royal Weddings Locations

Many remember watching Diana walk up the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral with her bridal veil blowing in the breeze — why not go back and visit that spot? Westminster Abbey was chosen by Will and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for their exchange of vows. And most recently, the wedding of Harry and Meghan was held in St. John’s Chapel at Windsor. Any one of these sanctuaries would add to your romantic week.

10. Royal Jewels

To stick with our royal theme, why not see the Crown Jewels? The top places to see these sparkling wonders are at the Tower of London and the Victoria & Albert Museum jewel room. Your eyes will not believe the historical tiaras, crowns, pendants, brooches, bracelets, and rings to be viewed. ALL THAT GLITTERS!

11. Evening of Theatre

People gather from all over the world to attend the theater in London. If you are lucky, you can view an iconic love story at the Shakespeare Globe; plays such as “As You Like It” and “Twelfth Night” sparkle with romance. Get tickets for a production on Southbank or in Covent Garden, or take in a movie at Electric Cinema with its unique romantic decor.

12. Shopping

There are numerous famous streets known for their shops and markets in London. Seven Dials, Oxford Street, Burlington Arcade, Piccadilly Square, Apple Market, Boroughs Market, the Saturday morning antique market on Portobello Road…the list goes on and on. Clear your credit card in advance, and take home some wonderful new clothes and souvenirs.

13. Take Out Dinner and Stay In

At least one evening, you need to enjoy your lovely London Connection vacation apartment. Find a nearby restaurant and order a meal to go. Whether you want Asian, Indian, British, or Italian — most are very accommodating to package your dinner to take home; it keeps their table available for another guest. You can enjoy your chosen cuisine in the privacy of your flat and not feel rushed. Don’t forget dessert!

Most important: don’t get your itinerary so tightly scheduled that you get stressed watching the clock. Relax, enjoy the beauty of London, and soak in the time together in such a romantic city.
